Price per kWh and per m³

Energy prices are quoted in different ways: with or without energy tax, with or without fixed charges. Here you convert to the price you actually pay per unit.

1. All-in price: supply rate plus energy tax

The supply rate in your contract often excludes energy tax. Adding energy tax gives the price you pay for each extra kWh or m³.

Example (July 2026, tax year 2026): electricity €0.1447 + €0.11085 = €0.25555 per kWh, of which 43% is energy tax. Gas €0.6277 + €0.72680 = €1.35450 per m³, of which 54% is energy tax.

2. Average price including fixed charges

Divide your total cost by your consumption to see what a kWh or m³ costs you on average, including fixed supply charges, network charges and the tax reduction. Useful for understanding your bill, but not for working out savings: fixed charges do not fall when you use less.

Which price to use for what?

• What does saving energy or running an appliance cost or save? Use the all-in price.
• What does energy cost me on average? Use the average price including fixed charges.
• Comparing contracts? Compare supply rates and fixed supply charges; network charges are the same with every supplier.
