How we calculate

All amounts include VAT. Per component:

• Supply = consumption × supply rate
• Energy tax = consumption × energy tax rate including VAT (2026: €0.11085 per kWh and €0.72680 per m³). If you ticked that your rates already include tax, this line is left out.
• Fixed supply charges and network charges: the annual amount
• Energy tax reduction: 2026: − €628.96 per year
• Monthly amount = annual total ÷ 12

Each line is rounded to cents; the total is the sum of the rounded lines. That way you can check every result with a calculator.

Using January 2026 prices and the same average consumption, CBS arrived at €1,993 a year. Differences from the example above are because we use the July 2026 rates here and CBS applies its own rounding.

Assumptions and limitations

• Intended for households using up to 10,000 kWh of electricity a year. Above that a lower tax rate applies, which this calculator does not use.
• The calculator uses one rate per energy type. If you have day and night rates or a dynamic contract, enter your average price per kWh.
• Solar panels: until the end of 2026 enter your net consumption (net metering). Feed-in charges and feed-in payments are not included. Net metering ends in 2027; see net metering.
• Supplier discounts, cashback or welcome bonuses are not included.
• The result is an estimate. Your supplier determines your actual bill.
